“The Chinese rose is the only flower that blooms throughout all four seasons of the year.” Nanyang roses originated in the Tang and Song dynasties, prospered in the Ming and Qing dynasties, and have a long history with profound cultural connotations. In order to enable international students to experience the beautiful natural scenery and rich cultural and tourism resources of Nanyang City, and to assist in the external dissemination of Nanyang City’s cultural and tourism resources through school-enterprise cooperation, the School of Culture, Tourism and International Education organized a practical teaching activity at the Chinese Rose Garden in Nanyang City on April 25, 2024.

International students retraced the route that General Secretary Xi Jinping inspected in the park in 2021, gaining insights into his instructions on exploring and utilizing local superior resources, strengthening the protection of local high-quality varieties, and promoting the integration of industry, academia, and research.

Wei Nan, head of the International Student Teaching and Management Department, gave a lecture to international students on the types of Chinese roses, their historical and cultural significance, the cultivation of Nanyang roses, and the stories of various Nanyang Rose Culture Festivals. The international students listened attentively to the introduction of the rose and occasionally expressed their admiration for the rose culture of Nanyang, known as the hometown of Chinese roses. At the same time, they were also contemplating how to apply their knowledge to contribute to the cultural tourism industry and rural revitalization of Nanyang.

This practical teaching activity attracted extensive attention from the mainstream media in Nanyang City. Reporters from Nanyang Daily went to the scene to conduct on-site coverage of the event, and the news was published on platforms such as the Nanyang Daily app, Nanyang Daily Weibo account, and Nanyang Evening News.

Since the beginning of this semester, the School, leveraging its professional strengths and international education advantages, has conducted practical teaching activities for international students under the theme of “Walking through Henan, Understanding China.” These practical teaching activities utilized Nanyang’s culture as a vehicle to spread China’s excellent culture and then used international students as a medium to promote Nanyang’s cultural and tourism resources.
