Experience Spring Festival through diversified folk cultures. To continuously and deeply promote the implementation of the “Spring Festival Culture Going Global” initiative, we strive to spread Chinese Spring Festival culture to international students through the beautiful natural scenery and rich cultural heritage of Nanyang. The School of Culture, Tourism and International Education, in collaboration with the Metaverse on Water, jointly organized a Spring Festival folk culture experience activity themed “Celebrating the New Year in a Place Worth Visiting Many Times” by the Baihe River in Nanyang City on February 16, 2024.

International students dressed in Hanfu, a traditional Chinese clothing, orderly line up to enter the activity site, and choose to participate in various interesting and engaging games such as pot throwing, blindfolded gong hitting, gold egg smashing, and cola rolling, according to their personal preferences. After that, they also visited and experienced the VR exhibition hall. The exciting activities elicited bursts of cheers and exclamations, with many praising the profoundness and breadth of Chinese folk culture. While appreciating the Spring Festival folk culture, they also experienced Chinese cuisine.

Afterward, under the guidance of the on-site staff, they put on life jackets and boarded the tourist ship to experience the beauty of the Baihe River. They admired the river that has been flowing for thousands of years, still rippling with clear waves, like the gentle embrace of a mother holding Nanyang in her arms, and felt the history and culture of Nanyang.

Through a series of distinctive New Year custom activities, international students were given the opportunity to experience the Chinese Spring Festival culture and the local folk culture of Nanyang. Moreover, these activities also helped Nanyang City to open a window for international exchange, spreaded Chinese Spring Festival culture, and showed the distinctive features of Nanyang’s culture and tourism and relevant enterprises to the world.
