The Spring Festival of the Year of the Dragon in the Chinese lunar calendar is approaching. As the online classes for the 2023 cohort of international students studying the Chinese language are about to conclude, the School of Culture, Tourism and International Education, with the online teaching platform, carried out an online “Spring Festival Culture Goes Global” activity for 170 international students who are participating in Chinese language studies from countries such as Ethiopia, Sudan, Nicaragua, Uganda, Russia, and Ukraine from January 26 to 29, 2024.

During the activity, Zhao Zheng, Wang Chaoran, Liu Xin, and Dang Feifei, teachers of the teaching team for international students in China, introduced to international students the traditional customs of the Chinese Spring Festival, the splendid historical culture of Henan, as well as the rich cultural and tourism resources, the convenient and beautiful urban environment and the magnificent South-to-North Water Diversion Project in Nanyang, based on the online classes. Furthermore, they also showcased to international students the rich cultural connotations of the Chinese Spring Festival, the long history and modern construction achievements of Nanyang City, Henan Province, and invited them to come to HPI for in-depth study and exchange.

All international students highly praised China’s contributions to global construction, development, and governance. They expressed that through the online classes this semester, they have gained a deeper understanding of Chinese culture and have grown to love the excellent traditional Chinese culture even more. Moreover, they also expressed their hope to visit and study in China, specifically in Nanyang, in the future. After the activity concluded, Weam Ali Osman Mohamed, an international student from Sudan, based on the teachers’ introductions, specially drew a dragon and lion dancing painting as a New Year’s blessing for the teachers.

This online activity not only allowed international students to experience the joyful atmosphere of the Chinese Spring Festival, but also effectively promoted the exchange, integration, and sharing of Chinese and foreign cultures and civilizations, showing a promotional significance for enriching and developing Chinese culture and continuously strengthening our cultural confidence.
